New Genuine Student requirements
All student visa applications lodged on or after 23 March 2024 will be required to meet the new Genuine Student requirements that will replace the Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement

From 23 March 2024, all student visa applicants will no longer be required to satisfy the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirements which required them to show that their stay in Australia is only temporary. Instead, they will be required to satisfy the new Genuine Student (GS) requirement.
The GS requirement acknowledges the post-study pathways to permanent residency for eligible graduates. The GS will assess the students' genuine intention to study in Australia considering the factors such as applicant's immigration history, circumstances, evidence of course progression, compliance with visa conditions and other relevant factors.
