The Victorian Government is actively involved in the National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) program—a pathway to permanent residency for individuals recognised globally for their achievements in their respective fields.

Victoria nominates candidates for the National Innovation Visa to the Australian Government with the aim of attracting high-achieving, exceptional individuals who can enhance innovation, drive productivity, and contribute to Victoria's economic growth and international reputation.

Receiving a nomination from the Victorian Government strengthens your Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Department of Home Affairs and allows you to be considered under Priority Two processing for the visa application.

Basic Eligibility for Victorian Government Nomination

To be eligible for nomination, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate exceptional talent through a proven history of significant accomplishments

  • Have interacted with a Victorian Government department or agency regarding how their globally recognised expertise will be transferred to Victoria

  • Be referred by a Victorian Government department or agency that has authority and expertise in the applicant’s field

  • Fulfil the visa requirements set out by the Department of Home Affairs

  • Be under the age of 55, unless presenting a strong case if under 18 or over 55

  • Show genuine intent to reside in and positively impact Victoria

Victorian Government departments and agencies have the authority to identify and nominate individuals within their areas of expertise. These may include domains such as research, innovation, entrepreneurship, the arts, sport, or other priority sectors for Victoria.
